Lawrence Trivia

Lawrence was incorporated as a village on September 13, 1897, after the Lawrence brothers began developing it as a summer getaway for wealthy New Yorkers and helped build the train station and roads to bring people in.

Cedarhurst trivia

Cedarhurst was originally called Ocean Point, but in 1910 it incorporated as a village and took the name “Cedarhurst” from a grove (or hurst) of cedar trees near its post office, after the nearby Rockaway Hunting Club helped push for the name change.
