Coastal Storm This Weekend Could Bring Snow to Tri-State Area

Lawrence, NY (February 18, 2026)
A developing coastal storm tracking up the Eastern Seaboard this weekend could bring a swath of wintry weather to parts of the tri-state region, with forecasters warning that small shifts in the system’s path will make a big difference in who sees snow versus rain.
Meteorologists say the storm is expected to move northeast just off the Mid-Atlantic and New England coasts, drawing moisture inland over New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Communities that may be affected include New York City, Newark, Lakewood, and as far south as the Philadelphia metro area.
The key factor will be how much cold air remains in place as the storm arrives. If temperatures stay low enough, especially away from the immediate coast and during the overnight hours, portions of the region could pick up a meaningful, plowable snowfall. Farther south and along coastal areas, even a slight jog in the storm track could flip the dominant precipitation type to rain or a messy wintry mix, cutting down on accumulations and creating slushy, changeable conditions.
At this stage, forecasters say confidence is moderate in the general setup — a coastal low bringing widespread precipitation — but more limited when it comes to pinpointing exact snowfall totals, rain-snow lines, and the timing of the heaviest bands. Forecast models are still refining the storm’s intensity and precise track, and updates over the next 24 to 48 hours are likely to adjust expectations for specific towns and counties.
Residents across the tri-state area are being advised to monitor updated forecasts closely toward the end of the workweek, particularly those with travel plans. Even in locations that ultimately see more rain than snow, periods of heavy precipitation and gusty winds could still lead to reduced visibility and slower travel. Inland suburbs and higher elevations, meanwhile, should be prepared for the possibility of slick roads if colder air wins out and snow becomes the primary precipitation type.
