BREAKING: King Kullen in Hewlett Closing After 45 Years — May 21st is the Last Day
This is big news for our community. The King Kullen at 1765 Peninsula Boulevard in Hewlett will close its doors on Thursday, May 21, after more than 45 years serving the area. The chain said it was unable to reach favorable lease renewal terms, though the landlord, Elias Properties, told Newsday that no negotiations actually took place — saying King Kullen simply decided to leave. When it closes, it will be the ninth King Kullen to shut its doors since 2019, part of a broader Long Island-wide downsizing of the regional chain. All employees will be offered positions at other stores. The question everyone's asking: what will move in next? Read more here

Local Leaders Unite Against Albany's REVIVE Act — Sign the Petition
Town of Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti, joined by officials from Oyster Bay and North Hempstead, rallied in front of Samanea Mall to push back against the state's proposed REVIVE Act — legislation that would allow high-density housing to be built on commercial sites like malls and strip centers while bypassing local zoning authority entirely. Ferretti called the legislation a top-down mandate that strips municipalities of their authority and silences the voices of residents who live there. Five Towns residents can make their voices heard by signing the petition at Change.org/StopReviveAct. Source: hempsteadny.gov

Did You Know? The Five Towns Has a Fascinating Place in American Pop Culture
Harvey Milk was born in Woodmere in 1920 — a Jewish kid who grew up in these streets and went on to become the first openly gay man elected to public office in the United States. And Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas features the Five Towns prominently — Henry Hill's wife Karen was from Lawrence, and Tommy DeVito mentions his date "lives in the Five Towns." Jake Burton, who founded Burton Snowboards and essentially created the modern snowboard industry, grew up right here in Cedarhurst. Our community's roots run deep! Read more here
